First fortified rice kernel export: Chhattisgarh to Costa Rica
What happened
- APEDA facilitated the first export of 12 tonnes of Fortified Rice Kernel (FRK) from Chhattisgarh to Costa Rica [PIB].
Background
- FRK is mixed with ordinary rice (about 1:100) to add iron, folic acid and vitamin B12. FCI distributes fortified rice across the PDS [PIB on distribution].

- India built FRK capacity for its own PDS. Exports show that capacity can find a second market.
