The Railway Minister said on 28 April 2026 at Visakhapatnam that the gazette notification for the South Coast Railway zone will be issued with 1 June 2026 as the effective date. Andhra Pradesh has a record rail budget of ₹10,134 crore, about ₹1,06,000 crore of projects under way, and a fully electrified network.

The South Coast Railway zone: what happened?
A railway zone handles operations, budgets and projects for its region. Andhra Pradesh has long wanted its own zone. With big rail projects under way, a new zone brings closer administration.
