PM SVANidhi: what happened?
Street vendors sell vegetables, tea and snacks at our doorstep, but most never had a bank loan. During the pandemic their small businesses collapsed. SVANidhi began as a relief loan in 2020; the restructured version tries to turn vendors into small entrepreneurs with credit, digital payments and social security.
- First year after restructuring: 21.86 lakh loans worth ₹6,294 crore to 10.56 lakh new beneficiaries.
- A UPI-linked RuPay Credit Card with a limit of up to ₹30,000 has been introduced; 27,077 cards approved so far.
- An end-to-end Digital Lending Platform now handles application, verification, approval and disbursement.
- A Vendor Migration Module transfers Letters of Recommendation when vendors move between ULBs and Census Towns.
- 50 Street Food Hubs will be built, with up to ₹4 crore per hub, including ₹25 lakh for notifying vending zones.
- The next round of Lok Kalyan Melas runs from 1 September to 30 September 2026.
