QR-code drug traceability under Schedule H2: what happened?

Counterfeit and substandard medicines are a real risk in the supply chain. A QR code on the pack lets anyone in the supply chain check that the product is genuine and trace its batch. Extending this to vaccines and cancer drugs protects patients where fakes do the most harm.

  • Code goes on the primary label, or the secondary label if space is short.
  • It stores the unique product code, proper and generic name, brand, manufacturer, batch, manufacture and expiry dates, licence number and excipients.
  • Early voluntary adoption is encouraged.
