The Unified Health Interface: what happened?
Today a patient on one health app cannot book a doctor listed on another. UHI gives every app a common language: any app can talk to any other through a common gateway, so the patient is not locked in.
- Requests from any UHI-enabled app route through the ABDM gateway to registered providers.
- Only doctors and facilities verified in HPR and HFR can join.
- Next phase: lab diagnostics, vaccination slots, pharmacies and government health programmes.
Why does UHI help rural patients?
- The release says semi-urban and rural people have relied on informal channels to find care.
- UHI gives them open access to verified services through any compatible app.
Why does the Unified Health Interface matter?
- Access: Wider choice of verified providers for citizens.
- Small providers: Clinics and labs get network-wide demand on equal terms.
