In the news

The two new India Semiconductor Mission units: what happened?

Chips are not only silicon. Gallium Nitride is a compound semiconductor used for bright, efficient LEDs. This approval takes India into compound semiconductor displays for the first time.

  • Crystal Matrix capacity: 72,000 sq m of display panels and 24,000 sets of RGB epitaxy wafers a year; GaN foundry on 6-inch wafers.
  • Uses: TVs, signage, tablets, phones, car displays, XR glasses and smart watches.
  • Suchi chips target power electronics, analog ICs, automotive and industrial automation.
  • Two ISM projects already ship commercially; two more will start soon.
Back Story

What is OSAT and ATMP?

  • OSAT (Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test) and ATMP (Assembly, Testing, Marking and Packaging) are the back-end steps that turn wafers into finished chips.
