The District Domestic Product guideline: what happened?

  • MoSPI is working to bring all States/UTs into DDP compilation.
Back Story

Why do State and district GDP figures matter?

  • The Finance Commission uses GSDP to judge States’ fiscal capacity, for example in the per capita GSDP distance criterion for tax devolution.
  • The Department of Expenditure fixes State borrowing limits as a percentage of GSDP.
  • District figures help decentralised planning and regional analysis.
Why examiners care
