The SVAMITVA scheme: what happened?
In many villages, the houses in the abadi area have never been formally recorded. Without a record, an owner cannot easily borrow against the house, and boundary fights are common. SVAMITVA fixes that with drone maps and a property card.
- Accurate maps reduce disputes by marking boundaries clearly.
- Ground verification and dispute resolution are part of the process.
- Spatial data goes to the States and to Gram Manchitra, the Ministry’s GIS planning app.
- Gram Manchitra helps Gram Panchayats prepare Gram Panchayat Development Plans (GPDPs).
What is Gram Manchitra?
- A GIS-based spatial planning application of the Ministry of Panchayati Raj.
- It shows habitation, roads, public assets, natural resources and water bodies on a digital map for each village.
Why does the SVAMITVA scheme matter?
- Credit: Property cards let villagers take loans against homes.
- Local planning: Maps feed into GPDPs.
