India chairs the Indian Ocean Rim Association for 2025-2027 under the theme “Innovation, Openness, Resilience and Adaptability in the Indian Ocean Region”, MEA told Rajya Sabha on 13 August 2026. India hosted the Indian Ocean Dialogue in May 2026, a senior officials’ meeting in June and will host the Council of Ministers later this year.

IORA brings together countries on the rim of the Indian Ocean. As chair, India sets the agenda and hosts the main meetings. Maritime safety is one of the areas India leads.
