Cotton procurement reforms: what happened?

CCI buys cotton from farmers at MSP when market prices fall below it. The reforms aim to make that purchase quicker, cleaner and traceable.

• The Ministry of Textiles, through the Cotton Corporation of India (CCI), scheduled a reform showcase in Hyderabad on 6 Oct 2026 under “Reform Utsav 2026” [PIB].
• Reforms showcased: digital procurement and farmer registration, slot booking, direct payments, quality assessment, traceability, HDPS and Kasturi Cotton [PIB].

What does each reform do?

• Kapas Kisan: farmer registration, slot booking, procurement messages and Aadhaar-enabled payments in one app.
• Kasturi Cotton Bharat: brand for premium, traceable Indian cotton with contamination control.
• HDPS: more plants per acre to close the yield gap.
