Model answer

India has over 90 crore internet users and the world's largest real-time payment system. Technology has changed who can access what.

How it empowers

  • Financial: UPI and DBT put money directly in women's and farmers' accounts.
  • Information: e-NAM prices, weather alerts and DigiLocker documents.
  • Voice: social media gave Dalit and women's movements (#MeToo India) a platform.
  • Livelihood: rural women sell crafts on ONDC and Meesho.
  • Language: Bhashini makes services usable in Indian languages.

Where it fails

  • A gender gap in phone ownership and use.
  • Biometric failures exclude the elderly and manual labourers from rations.
  • Online fraud and trolling silence the vulnerable.

Yes, but only when access, skills and safeguards come together. Digital literacy (PMGDISHA) and offline fallbacks are what convert technology into empowerment.
