Poshan Maah 2026: what happened?

Every September is Poshan Maah. This year the focus is on making local people own their Anganwadi Centre, through committees that check meals and services.

What are the five themes?

• Dietary diversity and adequate protein: recipe demos, Poshan Melas, a protein-rich foods campaign.
• Fresh hot cooked meals at Anganwadis, with weekly menus using millets, pulses and seasonal vegetables.
• Community ownership and accountability: Anganwadi Management Committees (AMCs) at every centre.
• Nutrition, early stimulation and education: home visits for 0 to 3 years, play-based learning for 3 to 6 years.
• Ten years of PMMVY: a 100% saturation drive for pregnant and lactating women.

What is new this year?

• Revised Supplementary Nutrition Programme (SNP) guidelines under Mission Saksham Anganwadi and Poshan 2.0 define Hot Cooked Meals for the first time.
• SNP Menu Boards are now mandatory at every centre.
• Guidelines for AMCs were issued on 25 June 2026; at least one AMC meeting at each centre during the month.
