ECLGS 5.0: what happened?
When fuel prices spike and airspace closes, airlines and small firms run short of cash. Banks hesitate to lend in a crisis. ECLGS makes the government guarantee the loan, so banks keep lending.
- General borrowers: extra credit up to 20% of peak working capital used in Q4 FY26, capped at ₹100 crore.
- Airlines: up to 100%, capped at ₹1,500 crore per borrower, with conditions.
- Guarantee cover lasts as long as the loan.
- Aim: limit the pass-through of higher costs to passengers and protect jobs.
What is NCGTC?
- National Credit Guarantee Trustee Company Limited gives the guarantee to Member Lending Institutions (banks and other lenders) for amounts in default under the scheme.
How does an ECLGS 5.0 loan work?
- Eligible borrower gets additional credit from a Member Lending Institution
- NCGTC guarantees the lender against default (100% MSME, 90% others)
- Borrower gets a 2-year moratorium, then repays within 7 years
- Up to 50% of interest can be turned into a Funded Interest Term Loan
