Ethanol for the Ethanol Blended with Petrol Programme is sourced entirely from domestic producers. No concession or commitment on fuel ethanol imports was made in India-US trade talks.

Fuel ethanol and India-US trade talks: what happened?
Indian fuel ethanol is made from sugarcane, maize and rice, and the blending programme has added to farmer earnings (PIB backgrounder, July 2026). So any hint that cheap imported ethanol would enter the programme worries them. With India-US trade talks under way, the Commerce Ministry moved to shut down the rumour.
