How many attempts do you get in UPPCS?

The UPPCS 2026 advertisement does not set a maximum number of attempts. You can sit the exam every year until you cross the upper age limit for your category.

For a General candidate who starts at 21, that is up to 20 cycles in theory. In practice the useful number is much smaller: most selected candidates clear within a handful of serious attempts, and each failed attempt is a year.

Using attempts well

• Write each Prelims only when your mock scores are clearly above the last cut-off.
• Keep Mains answer writing going even in a Prelims year; the UPPCS Mains result comes fast after Prelims.
• If you are also writing UPSC, plan both calendars together. The 2026 UPPCS Prelims falls in December, months after UPSC Prelims.
