UP forest officials have proposed sterilising leopards in Bijnor, where a survey last year counted 444 leopards in affected areas. Leopard attacks in Bijnor and Moradabad have killed 11 people and injured 30 this year, and 92 leopards have been captured, the Indian Express reported on 18 October 2026. The State has sought the Centre’s view.

On 17 September 2026 the Ministry of Coal said that, as on 15 September, none of UPRVUNL's thermal plants was in the critical coal-stock category. It urged UP to develop the Saharpur Jamarpani captive block in Dumka, Jharkhand, which holds over 973 million tonnes and was allotted to UPRVUNL in 2015 but is still not operational.

A study by the Birbal Sahni Institute of Palaeosciences, reported by DST on 10 September 2026, measured magnetic minerals in sediments of Bakhira Lake in Sant Kabir Nagar, UP, to track 25,000 years of Indian Summer Monsoon change. Bakhira is an oxbow wetland of the Rapti and a Ramsar site since 2022. The record can improve monsoon models.

26 Aug 2026On 25 August 2026 the Commission for Air Quality Management ran a special inspection drive in Loni, Ghaziabad under Operation Clean Air. All 28 industrial premises checked were non-compliant. Sixteen units were sealed by the UP Pollution Control Board with the district administration, and notices were served on others.
